The Department of Mechanical Engineering at Vidya Academy of Science and Technology organized a one-day workshop on Mechanical, Electrical, and Plumbing (MEP) systems for the 7th-semester Mechanical Engineering students. The event, held on 3rd October 2024, took place in the department’s Seminar Hall and was facilitated by experts from Capital Institutions.

The workshop aimed to equip students with the fundamental concepts of MEP systems and their vital role in modern building services engineering. By focusing on the integration of mechanical, electrical, and plumbing systems in complex infrastructure, the event offered both theoretical insights and practical case studies.

Workshop Highlights:

  • Introduction to MEP Systems: The session began with an overview of MEP systems and their significance in ensuring efficient and sustainable building designs. The experts from Capital Institutions guided students through the basics of HVAC, electrical, and plumbing systems.
  • Comprehensive Training: From 10:00 AM to 12:40 PM, students explored the fundamental principles of MEP design. The session covered topics such as HVAC system design, electrical wiring, and plumbing coordination, demonstrating how these systems work together in modern infrastructure projects.
  • Practical Insights: After the lunch break, the focus shifted to practical applications, where students were presented with case studies illustrating real-world MEP design challenges. This session helped them understand the complexities of system integration in large-scale projects.
  • Q&A and Feedback: The day concluded with a Q&A session, allowing students to engage with industry experts. The workshop wrapped up with closing remarks and feedback from the participants, who expressed their appreciation for the hands-on learning experience.

Key Takeaways:

  • Students gained valuable knowledge about the importance of MEP systems in building infrastructure, emphasizing their role in creating safe, efficient, and sustainable environments.
  • The workshop introduced them to industry-standard software and tools used for MEP design and project management, providing them with a competitive edge in their future careers.

Overall, the event successfully bridged the gap between academic learning and industry practices, leaving students well-prepared for future challenges in building services engineering.
