The Innovation and Entrepreneurship Development Centre (IEDC) of Vidya Academy of Science and Technology Technical Campus, Kilimanoor, in association with the R&D Cell, successfully organized an impactful awareness program titled “SahaYog – Assistive Technology Awareness and Sensitization Program” on 17th July 2025 at the Mechanical Seminar Hall.
The event was held in academic collaboration with NISH (National Institute of Speech & Hearing), CATI (Centre for Assistive Technology and Innovation), and NCAHT (National Centre for Assistive Health Technologies). The session aimed to sensitize students to the real-world challenges faced by people with disabilities and highlight the role of assistive technologies in enhancing accessibility and inclusion.
The session featured prominent speakers and experts in the domain, including:
Students participated enthusiastically in various activities, including simulated blindness exercises where participants attempted basic navigation using assistive tools such as white canes while blindfolded, effectively understanding the practical challenges differently-abled individuals face in everyday life. The engagement encouraged empathy, awareness, and the need for engineering solutions to address accessibility issues.
Dr.Pravin Rose T, R&D Coordinator, served as the event advisor, and Muhammed Faisal, Assistant Professor and IEDC Nodal Officer, coordinated the session. The event saw a full house, with students from various departments actively interacting with the resource persons, exploring assistive devices, and reflecting on inclusive design principles. 'SahaYog' stands as a testament to VAST TC’s commitment to nurturing socially responsible engineers and innovators capable of building an inclusive society.
